The week in animal abuse news in Singapore, the discovery of an extremely frail dog who was dumped in a plastic bag by the side of a road in Siglap on Sunday morning.
The male Japanese Chin was in its rock bottom moment — it was dirty, sick, blind, unable to walk and was struggling to free itself from a plastic bag.
It would have been a sad ending for the abandoned dog if not for a lady who witnessed the distressing scene and removed it from the plastic bag. She then brought it home and cleaned it up before the dog was handed over to Derrick Tan, founder of animal welfare group Voices For Animals.
Naming him Max, Tan has since brought him to the vet, where it was found that the eight-year-old dog was suffering from irregular heartbeat, severe cataracts in both eyes and tested positive for heartworms, The New Paper reports.
Currently, the forlorn canine is under observation at My Family Vet Clinic and Surgery, and will be staying there for a few more days.
Dog lovers everywhere were obviously horrified by the owner's savage abandonment of the dog, who must have outgrown the owner's sense of caregiving after it grew older, wracked with a number of ailments."He is a life, he doesn't deserve to be treated and dumped in such way, imagine in a hot afternoon, being in a plastic bag, he could just die from heat stroke or suffocation if he wasn't noticed!" wrote Tan in an emotional post on the Voices For Animals Facebook page.
The case has since been reported to the SPCA and the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA).
