Even after the organisers behind the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games 2015 issued a firm warning against all flying drones during the duration of the games, a drone hobbyist toed on the wrong side of the law when he was caught flying his machine in the vicinity of the National Stadium during the Games' closing ceremony.
The 55-year-old drone pilot has since been issued a stern warning by the police after he flew his unmanned aircraft on Jun 16 at Kallang Riverside Park — a gazetted Special Event Area — without a permit. Investigations revealed that he flew his drown to snap pictures of the fireworks during the SEA Games closing ceremony at the National Stadium.
Luckily, the man only escaped with a warning — he could have been fined a maximum of $20,000 and/or imprisoned for up to a year under the Public Order Act.
"Flying an unmanned aircraft without the appropriate permit may pose a threat to public safety and security especially in areas where there are large crowds," the Singapore Police Force stated. "Flying an unmanned aircraft near a fireworks area is especially dangerous and can cause severe harm to the members of public who are watching the fireworks."
Also, the drone could have distracted Ferry Corsten, who was also doing his own hovering in an unmanned aerial DJ console playing the most tiew-tiew techno song ever during the closing ceremony.
