A 44-year-old man was found dead without his pants at the foot of a staircase leading to Block 208 at Corporation Road in Jurong on early Monday morning.
According to The New Paper, the police said they were alerted at about 5.40am by a call requesting assistance and arrived at the scene to find the man, who has not been identified, lying motionless.
He was pronounced dead by paramedics. He had reportedly suffered a wound to the back of his head, which was bleeding profusely, but his money was left untouched. Other items found at the scene included a pair of belted jeans, a pair of red-and-black slippers and a blue reusable bag with hangers, pegs and a handwritten note inside.
The gruesome sight was witnessed by 9-year-old Teo Wen Bin, who lives on the 22nd storey of that block at Corporation Road. He told The New Paper: "I was so shocked because I've never seen a dead body and I didn't dare to stare at it for too long." Good thinking, lest he be plagued with nightmares of dead.
Another Block 208 resident, who wanted to be known only as Madam Ang, said: "A woman in her 70s told me that she saw him staggering towards her at about 5am, He was asking her for help and started removing his jeans. That was when she ran away and called the police." The man must've frightened the living daylights out of the poor old lady.
This has been classified as a case of unnatural death, the third reported in four days and the second dead body found in the Jurong area. The body of a 64-year-old woman was found floating in Jurong Lake on Sunday.
