Sunday, June 28: The day when all meat lovers will be out on the prowl for the 10,000 free steaks in Singapore’s heartlands.
Organised by the Australian High Commission, this event called 50 BBQs will see up to 500 Australian volunteers grilling Australian steaks and chicken wings across 22 neighbourhoods, said the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore Mr Philip Green in an interview with The Straits Times. The 50 BBQs event concludes Australia's 50 Bridges arts and community programme, a vibrant series of events to celebrate Singapore’s 50th birthday, and 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.Oh, and Muslims fasting in the month of Ramadhan can also join in the feast for their iftars — according to the organisers, all the meats are halal.
The two other parts of the programme are 50 Walls and 50 Performances. In 50 Walls, street artists from Down Under will collaborate with local artists to paint murals on walls in hawker centres, HDB blocks and schools. It’s heartening to see more street art being done without having the artists being thrown in jail. The other initiative, 50 Performances, will showcase puppets of various body parts (whatever that means) and a short animation clip.
Meat lovers, steak a claim this June 28 and don’t miss this rare chance to dig into free steaks. More details on the Australia in Singapore Facebook page.
