Thanks for the mention, Mister President. US President Barack Obama cited Singapore's racial integration and safe business environment as keys to its success as a nation.  He hosted a question-and-answer session at the White House with 75 young Asean leaders on Monday, as part of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative. On the topic of the boat people crisis in the region, Obama said one of the secrets to Singapore's success is its racial and ethnic integration, and it's ability to bring together people who may look different, but think of themselves as part of Singapore."Don’t divide yourself on religious and ethnic lines and racial lines, and don’t discriminate against women. If you do those two things, you are not guaranteed success but at least you’re not guaranteed failure,” he said.   (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));"You have to stand for something. That's my most important advice."—President Obama to young Southeast Asian leaders: go.wh.gov/YSEALIevent #YSEALI Posted by The White House on Monday, 1 June 2015 Responding to a question about economic development in Myanmar, the president emphasized the importance of international standard rules for employment. "The most important thing is to find some place where there’s security so there’s no conflict, where there’s rule of law and the people are highly skilled. And if you have those those things, then people will invest,” he said, citing Singapore as an example. Photo: The White House
