One of them was charged at the State Courts, and the other was charged via a video link while confined in hospital. Their offence: drug trafficking. "Mohamed Ismail, 31, and Muhammad Syahid Mohamed Yasin, 26, were charged with jointly trafficking about 9g of a substance believed to be diamorphine, also known as heroin," reports Today. Both were passengers in a car that was stopped at a police vehicular checkpoint along Ardmore Park  on early Sunday morning, near Shangri-La Hotel where a high-level security summit was on its last day. When police asked the car's driver to open the car boot, he sped towards the police officers and crashed through concrete barricades. Police opened fire to prevent the vehicle from approaching the hotel. The driver was pronounced dead at scene. Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said the police did the right thing as it could have been a terrorist plot.  The car's driver, Mohamed Taufik, was wanted for failing to attend court for an offence of criminal intimidation and has drug-related antecedents and other criminal records. If found guilty, the two passengers each face five to 20 years in jail and five to 15 strokes of the cane. Photo: AFP
