Free sterilisations for stray cats in HDB estates when SPCA kicks off new programme in JuneA new collaborative venture between the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) is set to launch on June 1 in their continual efforts to reduce the number of stray kitties who've made HDB estates their home.  Under the Stray Cat Sterilisation Programme, caregivers will have to register with the SPCA clinic or a participating veterinary clinic to book an appointment to have a community cat sterilised and microchipped for free.  For brave little nomadic cats living beyond HDB neighbourhoods — such as in industrial and private housing estates or farms and fringe areas — community feeders can bring them in to be sterilised for a subsidised sum of $25 each.  The new programme will be replacing SPCA's existing sterilisation voucher scheme which was started back in 1991.  “The new programme offers the SPCA the opportunity to work closely with community cat feeders in their trap-neuter-release efforts,” remarked SPCA Executive Director Corinne Fong.  SPCA has not forgotten about the dogs too — the society will continue to assist community dog feeders with managing the number of stray dogs roaming around. Stray dogs can be brought to the SPCA clinic to be sterilised and microchipped at a rate of $25 each.  More information on the stray cat sterilisation programme available on the SPCA website.  Photo: Tomoaki INABA via Flickr
