Instead of fulfilling the millennial prophecy of taking gratuitous selfies, this fresh graduate takes the cake for offbeat exploits in recent Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) history.
Shin Min Daily News reports that a student at the polytechnic appeared to his graduation ceremony wearing a black veil with golden embroidery, wearing the hood and concealing his face throughout, even while posing for a photo with the school's director when he received his diploma onstage.
The school director Daniel Tan appeared to be amused by his stunt, and the hooded student was not even reprimanded. Two other students wore a similar hood on stage but removed it before receiving their diplomas.
Reportedly, it is a common sight in NYP's School of Interactive and Digital Media, whose students often pull off such attention-grabbing stunts to express their creativity.
Though the incident amused everyone at the school, it was not the case for Lim Biow Chuan, Member of Parliament for Mountbatten and chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Education.
He mentioned that such actions are unacceptable as they devalue the significance of the event, probably while shaking his walking cane at the sky, mumbling about how youth is wasted on the young or something.
