34-year-old Nantha Kumar Palakrishnan has been sentenced to jail for 24 weeks for taking upskirt videos of 59 victims, all within the span of a month, The Straits Times reports.
He would capture the videos by placing his phone — camera facing upwards — in his laptop bag on top of some books, and placing it stealthily on the floor behind unwary women. Nantha's spree of voyeurism would take place in shops such as Popular book store and NTUC Fairprice outlets near MRT stations between July and August 2013.
It was on Aug 26 when Nantha was caught red-handed at Plaza Singapura's Daiso store — a male colleague of one of his victims spotted him placing the bag behind her and adjusting it. The man grabbed the bag and confronted Nantha, discovering the phone in the bag to be in recording mode.
Police raided the voyeur's flat in Yishun, seizing a laptop filled with upskirt videos he shot. 59 counts of insulting modesty were slapped on him, with eight charges proceeded with.
