Australia gets into the SG50 spirit in the best way possible — 50 simultaneous barbecuesLoaning koalas to the Singapore Zoo was just the beginning. As part of Australia's plans to contribute to celebrate Singapore's 50th birthday — and also the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between both countries — they're getting into the SG50 game with the recently announced 50 Bridges programme.  Among the upcoming plans in the programme, they're chucking another shrimp on the barbie in the grandest way possible — 50 simultaneous barbecues fired up on one night in June. It's as Australian as it gets.  Launched earlier today by Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and Singaporean Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong, the 50 Bridges program plans to unfold a vibrant arts and community engagement program in Singapore's heartlands.  Channel NewsAsia reports that one such event will see public art in 50 heartland locations, with the next one coming to Tiong Bahru Market tomorrow.  A film on pioneer generation Singaporeans entitled In My Day will also be screened on television.  Stay update on upcoming events in the 50 Bridges program on their official website.  Photo: Jun Seita via Flickr
