SEA Games scam promises phony temp jobs; leaves at least 50 people out of $35 A scam involving the promise of temp jobs in the upcoming SEA Games carried out by a particular individual by the name of Karim has left at least 50 people with $35 lesser in their pockets. According to the swindled victims speaking to TODAY, Karim called out for aspiring recruits to work as towel and laundry attendants with a salary of $900 for one week's work. They had to pay a fee of $35 for registration and a set of uniforms, and attend a three-day training session at the New Bridge Road office of recruitment agency TCC Manpower, which was supposed to take place from 9am to 5pm yesterday.  Karim had even asked the applicants about their favourite sport so that he could assign them to the one that would be suitable for them in the SEA Games.  All those who signed up for the job arrived promptly and gathered at the location yesterday, but Karim was a no-show. When they tried to call him, he said that he was on the way but his phone was turned off around 10am.  The jig was up when TCC staff members told the crowd that they did not have any employee by the name of Karim, and that the agency was not recruiting anyone for the SEA Games.  A spokesman of the Singapore SEA Games Organising Committee also mentioned that there was no such position for workers involved in laundry services or towel duties.  A police report has been lodged.  Photo: Ross Catrow via Flickr
