You complain that SingPost takes too long to deliver letters and packages — but there is something that it is doing very right.
The New York Times just ran an awesome, all-praises report about Singapore Post in its international business section.
It explains how the postal corporation, which went public in 2003, has reinvented itself for the digital age by successfully adapting the Amazon model.
While still maintaining its legacy mail delivery business.
"As postage stamps give way to keyboard clicks, SingPost is redefining the role of the letter carrier, by creating a one-stop shop for retailers’ e-commerce needs in Asia," writes Alexandra Stevenson.
It is also invovled in website development, online marketing and customer service.
"Following the Amazon model, it is building a network of 24 warehouses in 12 countries to stockpile goods for companies. The e-commerce team is staffed with former Silicon Valley executives."
It quotes chief executive Wolfgang Baier saying SingPost wants to be the gateway to the East, owing to its proximity to over 600-million consumers in the region.
"That is practically half of China," says the managing director of Triumph, one of SingPost's e-commerce clients.
