Following years of composing tunes and honing his craft as an independent musician, folk-pop wonderboy Gentle Bones has hit it big time — he has signed on to the largest music corporation in the world, Universal Music.
The 21-year-old singer-songwriter has struck a major record deal with the Universal Music Singapore label, which would allow him to recording and publishing rights, as well as events, endorsements and merchandise.
His rise in the local music scene can only be describe as meteoric. After a couple of years being a relative unknown artist, Joel Tan's music rose to nationwide prominence with his single 'Until We Die', accompanied by a slick music video that went viral online and hitting the top spot on iTunes Singapore charts a day after its release. Since then, his subsequent singles 'Save Me' and 'Elusive' served to soar the popularity of Gentle Bones, which apexed in the sold-out launch of his self-titled debut EP last year, which peaked at the top of the Singapore iTunes charts upon release.
Gentle Bones has also played to thousands of people in last year's New Year's Eve SG50 countdown, as well as opening for international stars Christina Perri and Us The Duo. Next month, he'll be performing in London along with fellow music wonderboy Charlie Lim as part of the SG50 arts showcase.
“My progress with music has been an incredible one over the past years and has exceeded my wildest dreams” says Tan of his rapid success. “With the involvement of Universal Music Group in the Gentle Bones journey; it leaves me with great hope of taking my artistic endeavors to greater heights.”
His first major-lebel debut EP is expected to be released later this year. Good on you, Joel.
