You know that old joke about The Police's song "Every Breath You Take" being a wildly appropriate theme song for people who live in Singapore? Guess what, it still rings true. In fact, it's not just the police keeping their eyes wide open for suspicious incidents happening in the neighbourhood — private citizens have been looped in as well. With the launch of Bedok Police Division's Vehicles on Watch project, there'll be more eyes watching every move you make, every bond you break, and very step you take. Every single day. According to a news release on the Singapore Police Force website, about 760 vehicle owners with in-vehicle cameras have agreed to participate in an initiative meant to fight crime in the neighbourhood. "Police also encourage vehicle owners to purchase an in-vehicle camera that records for 24-hours and not only when the engine is in operation. This allows for the vehicle’s surroundings to be recorded after the vehicle is parked," it says. If necessary, the police could borrow footage for the purpose of investigations. The VOW projects covers 56 ar parks in Bedok, Changi, Geylang, Marine Parade, Pasir Ris and Tampines. There will be signages installed at car park entrances if ther area is being monitored by in-vehicle cameras. Photo: Singapore Police Force
