The cost for a round trip from KL to Singapore on the high-speed rail? Less than $148Whoop de doo; the path towards a hyperfast train service from Singapore all the way to Kuala Lumpur is becoming a little clearer ever since the announcement that the terminus will be located in Jurong East — specifically over the dead, green body of Jurong Country Club.  But nobody has really asked how much it'll cost for that 90 minute ride into Kuala Lumpur and vice versa.  Though we may not know exactly how much we have to fork out for that train ride, there is a pretty good gauge of the ticket price. According to the Business Times, a round trip from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore on the new high-speed rail link will cost — at most — RM400 (S$147.94).  Malaysia's Land Public Transport Commission chairman Mohd Nur Ismal assures that the pricing will be affordable for all types of passengers, from tourists to travelling businessmen. A single trip would cost less than RM200 ($73.97), he says.  With such convenience — it does cover 300 kilometres between two cities in just 90 minutes — folks here can expect to fork out a bit more to utilise the high-speed rail link. Industry experts have estimated that commuters can expect to pay between $80 and $90 per trip, The Straits Times reports. Those who want a much cheaper alternative can always stick to the daily buses that head to and fro Kuala Lumpur — the catch is that it'll take at least five hours for the trip, depending on traffic conditions.  Photo: Catriona Ward via Flickr
