Police have arrested four men for their suspected involvement in a series of loanshark harassments that saw several innocent Automated Teller Machines (ATM) inhumanely splashed with black paint.
The four men, aged between 25 and 34, are believed to be connected to nine reports of ATMs being brutally vandalised last week. In some of the cases, debtors' notes were also left behind at the scene of the crime.
The identities of the suspects were quickly established and they were subsequently arrested the day after the police received the reports.
“Police do not condone such lawless acts which cause damage to public property and acts of harassment which threaten the community’s sense of safety," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigations & Intelligence) Tan Chye Hee. "Police will spare no effort to apprehend the offenders and ensure that they face the full brunt of the law.”
The violated ATMs have since undergone counselling and should be functioning perfectly in society by now.
