Pop-up stores? Sure. Pop-up ads? Annoying. Pop-up beaches? Whoa.
That's exactly what DBS Bank plans to bring this June in the middle of Marina Bay — Singapore's first pop-up urban beach, complete with a pool, palm trees and a beach bar even.
The pop-up beach in the middle of the Central Business District is part of DBS's celebration of SG50 and having the 28th SEA Games water sports taking place in conjunction with the DBS Marina Regatta 2015.
This fully man-made beach will measure 50 by 50 metres, with 28,000 kg of sand to be brought in with another 300 man-hours to be spent on creating the pop-up beach at The Promontory @ Marina Bay. Once completed, it can hold up to 250 people who'll be able to take part in activities such as stand-up paddling and yoga, among other beach fun.
To help ensure that the artificial beach remains a beach, a raised edge will help contain the sand, and the grass lining the perimeter of the beach will ensure that the sand remains within the beach's boundaries.
The beach pops up at The Promontory @ Marina Bay on Jun 13 to Jun 14.
