Nature is definitely not on the side of Singapore's national sharpshooters after torrential rains left the National Shooting Centre flooded overnight, rendering at least 20,000 rounds of ammunition to be used in the SEA Games unusable.
Channel NewsAsia reports that water levels rose up to half a metre high in the Singapore Rifle Association's armoury, located at Old Chua Chu Kang Road. Drainage problems within the premises contributed to the flood.
The rounds were to be used by the national shooting team for training and the actual competition during the SEA Games. Half of the 40,000 rounds of ammunition are no longer fit for use after the flood, possibly incurring costs of around $20,000.
New rounds will be purchased today, with delivery expected to take up to three weeks.
