Instead, sleep in on Labor Day then head up to the Istana Open House around 4pm for the (free) performance fo the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. While you're listening to classical music, spot the 14 benches fabricated from timber planks recycled from the former National Stadium (pictured above). The designs for these benches were selected from a public design competition as well as submissions by local designers from various fields.
Meanwhile, former Tanjong Pagar Railway Station will also be open to the public from 9am to 6pm. The public can enter TPRS using the main entrance along Keppel Road or through the side entrance along Spottiswoode Park Road.
