A 64-year-old factory worker got into fistful of trouble on Tuesday morning when his arm got swallowed by the rollers of a large industrial-grade printing machine.
Though it might have been mangled up and looked a bit worse for wear, he did not have to amputate his trapped arm, The New Paper reports.
Working at printing company Citi Print & Design located at Ubi Techpark, the man had been adding lubricant to the machine while it was running when his right hand and forearm got trapped between the rollers of the machine.
His colleagues switched off the machine and tried to free the man before alerting the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), who sent a fire engine, a Red Rhino, two fire bikes, an ambulance and two other support vehicles to the scene — pretty overkill for a single man involved in an industrial accident no?
As the paramedics gave him an oxygen mask and monitored his vital signs, the technicians helped the SCDF officers with the dismantling of the machine, which comprised of eight to 10 rollers of different sizes. They had to cut through a series of beams, bars and supporting rollers to free the hand.
The whole operation concluded within 20 minutes, and the man was conveyed to Changi General Hospital. Reportedly, he has been discharged yesterday afternoon — he even had capability of his hand. Looks like he handled the whole thing pretty well.
