Okay, Hong Kong you win. This time.
Singapore trailed behind its rival in the latest Conde Nast Traveler Readers' Choice awards on the world's best food cities, ranking one place behind HK at number eight.
Singapore was singled out for being one of Asia's most exciting food cities where you can find pricey celebrity chefs comfortably rubbing cleavers with more affordable hawker food served at "clean, well-lit spots [that] feed the democratic masses and delight visiting foodies".
Editor-at-large Maria Shollenbarger recommends food centres in Newton, Old Airport Road, and Jurong West; we'd throw in ABC Brickworks and Hong Lim.
Conde Nast also gave a heads up on the Telok Ayer neighborhood — otherwise known as Loh Lik Peng land.
Also mentioned were Mario Batali (Osteria Mozza), Daniel Boulud (DB Bistro Moderne), David Thompson's Long Chim, and the soon-to-open restaurant at The Patina Capitol, "Singapore’s only seriously luxurious boutique hotel".
Some 76,000 people responded to the survey, and the awards were led by San Sebastian (Spain), Paris (France) and Cape Town (South Africa).
