If it's a pop-up and no one's going to try to sell us anything, we're there. 4A Haji Lane has been transformed as a cool art exhibition space by the cool cat of Kult, curator Steve Lawler, who's gathered 40 global artists across all disciplines to mess with our minds.
Called ‘Outpost’, the pop-up consists of two sections. At the main space is ‘Dead Celebrities’, which features portraits of pop-culture and historical icons created by over 20 artists from all over the world. Artists have used a huge variety of mediums, including a painting of Jay Adams on a skateboard and Ian Curtis etched out on the surface of a Zippo lighter.
The second showcase is a series of classic movie posters that have been redesigned by artists. A series of giant posters hang from the ceiling of a darkened room, and projected onto the posters is a series of movie-inspired graphics that react to the sound you make.
Visitors can walk away with a free copy of issue #16 of Kult magazine entitled ‘Film’ which features 50 re-designed movie posters said to be better than the original posters.
Outpost runs from Apr 21-30 at 4A Haji Lane, Singapore 189197. Wed-Sun, noon-9pm; www.kultmagazine.com.sg.
