It's been four days since infamous YouTuber Amos Yee was thrust into remand prison since his pre-trial conference last Friday, when his parents refused to post bail for him.
As of today, the 16-year-old still remains in remand as no one has posted bail, despite it being in non-cash terms — meaning bailors don't have to deposit the cash value in court and will simply need to pledge the money.
It also must be noted that the bail does not necessarily have to be posted by Yee's parents. Anyone can do so — but no one's stepping up to the plate it seems.
The articulate provocateur rose into notoriety for going on a rant against Lee Kuan Yew after the late statesman's death. Yee was later arrested and charged on Mar 31 with posting obscene content on his blog and uploading content which contained remarks against Christianity, as well as charged under the Protection from Harassment Act for his remarks against the late Lee.
In the days that followed, he allegedly flouted his bail conditions when he made a post on his blog calling for public donations, which reposted his original YouTube video and links to the graphic imagery.
Yee's bail will be reviewed today, The New Paper reports, while his next pre-trial conference is expected to take place on May 13.
