Singapore's first natural history museum to open to public this WednesdayClearly fashioning themselves after the world-renowned  natural history museums of New York and London, Singapore will also have one to call their own with the opening of the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM) at the National University of Singapore.  Singapore's first and only natural history museum was opened last Saturday, and traces its roots to the original Raffles Museum of 1878, which technically makes it the oldest such institution in the region.  The seven-storey museum is said to house over 560,000 catalogued lots and over a million specimens from the region — and yes this museum has dinosaurs. The fossils of three diplodocid sauropods (endearingly called Prince, Apollonia and Twinky) dominate the main gallery, as part of the 15 zones that track the biodiversity and history of life on earth.  The mezzanine floor hosts the Heritage Gallery, featuring the history of the Raffles Museum and LKCNHM — and also comprising one of the most comprehensive collections of Singapore and Malayan animal specimens in the world with 150,000 specimens of Southeast Asian vertebrates, including bird and freshwater fish collections. On the botanical side of things, the NUS Herbarium documents over 33,000 plant specimens, mainly from Singapore and Malaysia.  LKCNHM will be open to the public from Apr 28 onwards, and will operate Tuesdays to Sundays, including public holidays. Admission tickets and more details available on Sistic and their official website.
