Remember last Saturday when Instagram was down for a couple of hours and people suddenly didn't know how to show to the world that they're having eggs benedict?
Apparently, it was because shampoo brand Head & Shoulders organised the #SGLargestGroufie challenge during Spotify's The Music Run event, in which around 9,000 runners took group selfies (apparently it's called groufies these days) and Instagram-ed.
(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));
Confident enough to get close and #Groufie? Have fun with trick-eye backdrops at the Head & Shoulders #Pop Zone, break...

Unsurprisingly, in that window of time where excessive interest in one's self-portraits were encouraged, the photo-sharing application crashed for a couple of hours.
According to a report on Channel NewsAsia, Singtel shut down access to Instagram temporarily due to an abnormally high amount of traffic coming through.
Aside from breaking the Instagram service, Head & Shoulders' campaign also managed to break the record in the Singapore Book of Records for 'Most Photos Uploaded To Instagram In 4 Hours', with a final count of 1,111 groufies. Though to be fair, nobody probably set out to attempt that record before.
