The police are investigating an alleged case of police brutality that left a 41-year-old Singaporean man with injuries to his head and fractures to his nasal bone and arm.
According to The Online Citizen, businessman Lim Chin Huat has filed a police report against a group of officers after sustaining multiple injuries from their alleged brutality. He had been drinking at a pub at Hotel Rendezvous when a group of about eight plainclothes police officers entered the premises at 1.30am last Friday to conduct a spot check.
As the officer's identity tags were facing inwards, Lim asked them to identify themselves, but they refused. When Lim tried to jot down an officer's name and by flipping over his tag, he was ordered not to do so. Lim claims that he apologised to the officers.
However, he was later pinned down to the ground without warning and handcuffed, as officers applied excessive force to his arms and head, to the point of bleeding profusely. Dragged downstairs to the police car, the officers then slammed Lim's head onto the car bonnet.
After getting treatment from paramedics and later on at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, he was given 10 days of medical leave and will have to return for plastic surgery on his nose, TODAY reports.
In a statement, the police confirmed that they conducted a spot check at the venue and arrested a Singaporean man for disorderly behaviour. On his end, Lim denied that he was drunk, adding that there were eight people sharing two towers of beer the night of the incident.
Police have also confirmed that Lim's report on the alleged abuse by the officers has been lodged, and are conducting investigations into the veracity of the allegations.
