A former Physical Education (PE) teacher took the 'physical' aspect of his subject way too far when he started an intimate relationship with his 12-year-old student.
The 37-year-old man — who was awarded the "most caring teacher award" from his school in 2012 — has been sentenced to a year in prison for hugging and kissing the student on her cheeks, forehead and lips, The Straits Times reported.
The Court heard that he had done so on three separate occasions in 2013 at his home and the indoor sports hall of a primary school here.
Texting her on a daily basis, the father of one showered the student with gifts and calling her his "dearest" and constantly told her that he missed her. He even instructed the girl to delete the text messages so their relationship could be kept secret.
Despite a confrontation by her father after he discovered the text messages, the former teacher kept on maintaining the perverse relationship, and even inviting the girl into his home to fool around.
He was eventually arrested after the girl's father complained to the school's principal, who lodged a police report.
In court, his lawyer maintained that he committed those offences in an "error of judgement".
