BreadTalk has apologised for selling buns meant for commemorating the late Lee Kuan Yew.
The Singapore bakery chain was criticised today for launching the "Lee bu kai ni" ("Will not leave you") bread filled with gula melaka grated coconut, and has since ceased its sale.
However, BreadTalk says it will still donate $30,000 to the Community Chest to align with its promise that proceeds from the sale of the buns would be given to charity.
Read the full apology, which was posted to Facebook about an hour ago:
(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.0"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));
We would like to convey our deepest apologies with regard to the commemorative bun #rememberingLKY which was introduced...
