BreadTalk has released a new bun to commemorate the life of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, The Straits Times reports.
They've called it "Lee bu kai ni"— a play on Mr. Lee's Mandarin surname — meaning "Will not leave you". Its filling: gula melaka-flavoured grated coconut mixed with attap seed.
Each bun costs $2 and proceeds from the sales will go to the Community Chest.
Many have commented on ST's Facebook post to show their disdain for the move, which they say is a "distasteful marketing ploy".
One Facebook user suggested the company proved its positive intentions by distributing the buns to the public queueing to pay their respects at the Parliament House instead.
