At 9am this morning, the gun carriage carrying the body of Singapore's first Prime Minister Mr. Lee Kuan Yew left the beautiful landscaped grounds of the Istana for the Parliament House via an approximately 2km route.
The State Flag was draped over Mr. Lee's casket, the highest State honour accorded to a leader. The crescent and stars are positioned so they lie over his head and near his heart.
Before the procession began, at the Istana Plaza, a bag piper from the Singapore Gurkha Contingent played "Auld Lang Syne". Looking on were ESM Goh Chok Tong and President Tony Tan.

The ceremony, used for state, state-assisted and military funerals, passed Orchard Road, Bras Basah Road and one of Singapore's oldest and longest stretches, the North Bridge Road, where citizens were waiting to pay their respects to their Founding Father. Muted applause and the occasional chant of "Lee Kuan Yew" filled the air as the carriage passed.
