As news of Lee Kuan Yew's death spread across the globe, various world leaders and former politicians have come out to pay tribute to the former Prime Minister of Singapore — especially those who have personally interacted with the elder statesman.
In a statement issued by The White House, the deeply saddened Obama sent his deepest condolences to the Lee family, and that he personally appreciated Lee's wisdom, including the ones shared during their discussions in Singapore back in 2009 that helped craft the United States' policy of rebalancing to the Asia Pacific.
Former US president George W. Bush have also paid tribute to Lee, praising him for leaving behind a Singapore that is an influential force for stability and prosperity, and a friend to the United States.
