People often forget that migrant labourers have their own lives and personalities too, and it may be surprising to most that they too have an inclination towards poetry and literature — and pretty amazing at it as well.
That's what BBC explored in an article published yesterday about two of Singapore's construction worker poets, Sharif and Zakir Hussain — both finalists in a poetry competition held last year that showcased the literary talent of migrant workers.
36-year-old construction supervisor Zakir took home the winning title in the final, held at National Library. Here's both of them reciting the poems that revealed their innermost feelings and desires being miles away from home, working to make ends meet.
