As the dry season scorches on, the conditions are ripe for fires to break out in the grasslands and lalang fields across the island. Last Saturday, Sungei Kadut Industrial Estate played host to a vegetation blaze that razed an area the size of three football fields.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident around 4.30pm, where a fire engine and two light fire attack vehicles were dispatched to the scene.
Approximately 12 SCDF personnel were involved in the operation who managed to get the fire extinguished two and a half hours later using four water jets, while no casualties were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
