The stretch of Rochor Canal which has been undergoing heavy construction and refurbishment for the past few years will finally be revealed to the public this Sunday, in the official opening of the spiffy recreational expanse.
According to TODAY, the 1.1km stretch running from Sim Lim Tower to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority Building in Lavender is part of a project initiated by Public Utilities Board (PUB).
The Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) programme was launched in 2006 as a strategic initiative to improve the quality of water and life by harnessing the full potential of Singapore's waterbodies.
Features of the revamped Rochor Canal include look-out decks, rain gardens, benches and new pedestrian bridges, while the canal itself has been widened and deepened to improve its capacity.
A communal space called the Gateway Plaza near Ophir Road will be a place where people can gather for community events against the urban backdrop of both residential and commercial buildings.
