Despite the embarrassing past several days of frustrating disruptions in train services, SMRT CEO Desmond Kuek maintains that there has been steady progress in enhancing rail reliability over the previous years.
In a media conference this morning, Kuek has affirmed that the five train service disruptions within nine days (which has drawn ire from the Land Transport Authority themselves) has emphasized the need for SMRT to step up their vigilance and maintenance efforts, Channel NewsAsia reports.
Amidst all the bad flak they've been receiving, the number of train withdrawals for every 100,000 kilometres have actually dropped significantly, from 3.3 in 2012 to 1.0 last year. SMRT has also made efforts to bring in new systems and renew outdated systems, while also expanding their engineering and technical staff with more to be recruited in the next few years.
