Former cab driver jailed 4 weeks over repeated road-raging behaviourDriving on the roads of Singapore all day can drive you nuts, sometimes it can land you in prison.  Yesteday, a former SMRT relief taxi driver was sentenced to a month in jailed after his GTA behaviour along the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) last month. The SMRT driver let out his road rage on a white Toyota on Feb 1. Additionally, the driver admitted to hurting a 17-year-old back in 2012, The New Paper reports.  32-year-old Wayne Lim Yen Yew, pleaded guilty to throwing a Coke can and coins at Shaun Lim Chin Seng’s car at around 5:40pm that day. Apart from that, the victim’s dashboard cameras show Lim tailgating, swerving between lanes, throwing objects at the car and scolding vulgarities.   The altercation initiated when the two vehicles were travelling on the KPE, when Lim jumped into the second lane behind the victim’s car and began tailgating. Lim then cut into the first lane and moved beside the Toyota, picked up speed and veered slightly, nearly leading to a collision.   The victim drove behind the SMRT taxi and switched on his high beam in retaliation. That didn’t stop Lim, as he slowed down to switch into the second lane and nearly stopped completely, causing a car behind to brake hard.   The taxi driver stopped his car on the third lane and brought down his window, said Deputy Public Prosecutor Claire Poh. Not wanting to get into a conflict, the victim continued past the taxi.  Lim continued to give chase to his victim, flinging a Coke can that struck the victim’s bumper. Lim then continued to throw coins at the Toyota, which resulted in damages that cost about $700 to repair and cover up.   When the victim questioned Lim for the reason behind his actions, Lim reacted with a string of Hokkien vulgarities.  In a separate incident in 2012, 61-year-old Soo Kok Wing fell victim to Lim in a carpark beside Block 630, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4.  As Soo tried to park his car, Lim drove up from behind and stopped in front of Soo, when Lim launched into a tirade against the elder man as he was not pleased with the way Soo drove.  Lim emerged from his taxi and hit Soo’s car. Lim then opened Soo’s driver’s door. Lim continued his vulgarities when Soo alighted.   When Lim noticed Soo’s 17-year-old son video recording the incident with his phone, he opened the car door and attempted to grab the iPhone. Lim punched the defenceless teen once on the right side of his face.   For the rash act of endangering personal safety of others, Lim could have been jailed for up to six months and/or fined up to $2,500. The maximum punishment for causing hurt is two years of jail time and a $5,000 fine.  Photo: Tony Fischer via Flickr  Got a tip?
