The elements of nature take its toll on statues, from the scorching sun, the pelting rain and the relentless bird droppings. According to a press release published yesterday the Urban Redevelopment Authority and the Singapore Tourism Board have started to roll out enhancement works.
In partnership with Singapore Tourism Board, the project will involve the enhancement of the Civic District in creating an integrated arts, culture and lifestyle precinct.
Due to construction works, iconic statues and landmarks along the Singapore River will be fenced off. Monuments including the Sir Stamford Raffles statue outside Asian Civilisation Museum, People of the River series — “A Great Emporium" and “From Chettiars to Financiers” sculptures and Cavenagh Bridge will be barricaded until July 31. The bridge which will remain accessible to pedestrians.
