Singapore’s athletes have worked their butts off to get our tiny island onto the world’s sporting arena. But one particular motorist doesn’t seem to give a shit.
Returning from his victory at the Masters Tour of Chiang Mai, national cyclist Vincent Ang was caught in an accident involving a car, leaving his bicycle severely damaged on Wednesday morning. The bicycle was Ang’s loyal steed, which he had hoped to use in the upcoming SEA Games.
A video uploaded by Ang onto Facebook shows the smug driver acting in a Primary school teacher-he-hit-me-first behaviour. He gave a cheeky grin when Ang was recording and demanded Ang to remove his helmet for a photo. Ang refused to respond, leading the driver to raise his voice. When a policewoman intervened, the driver clamoured, “I want to take picture, he take my picture, I also want to take his picture.”

A second video uploaded by Ang shows the driver backing up to release the bicycle that was trapped under the front wheels of the Toyota. Looking at the extent of the damage, it's a miracle that Ang managed to remain unhurt.

“Even if they can repair the fork and head tube, I don’t think it’s safe using it for competitive racing again,” Ang wrote on Facebook. Unsurprisingly, the Toyota seemed undamaged.
In a media release, the Singapore Cycling Federation said, “A police report has been made and investigations are currently underway.” They continued to say that the accident will not phase Ang as he continues to prepare for the upcoming SEA Games.
