With just eight more days to go to the region's biggest dance party Future Music Festival Asia (FMFA), the organisers behind the event — which was abruptly shut down last year due to several deaths — may yet face another crisis.
According to confirmations by the police and various media reports, they have yet to receive a permit to even hold FMFA at Changi Exhibition Centre next week.
Reportedly, the police have rejected the festival organisers' applications twice on Jan 29 and Feb 27 due to serious concerns of potential drug abuse at the event.
Deaths due to drug overdose marred the proceedings of last year's FMFA at Kuala Lumpur, which prompted the Malaysian authorities to force organisers to cancel the third day of the festival, the day where the likes of Pharrell Williams, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Rudimental were supposed to perform. Six deaths were reported while several more received treatment at the hospital, including six Singaporeans.
Attempting to move on after the calamity of last year's iteration, FMFA moved to Singapore and promised even bigger things at the Changi Exhibition Centre. However, the outlook is grim at the moment with only eight days left to the festival.
On Facebook, FMFA have posted an update about the attempt to ensure the show go on, and The New Paper reports that the organisers have since appealed to the Minister for Home Affairs, while urging for folks to #KeepFMFAAlive

Since the announcement of FMFA 2015, over 11,000 tickets have reportedly been sold, with a significant portion of the ticket sales comprising of international festival attendees.
