A 45-year-old snatch thief thought he could get away with it but he didn't expect to be chased down and detained by two public-spirited members of public.
Occuring on Feb 22 close to midnight, the suspect targeted a 47-year-old woman who was walking on the link bridge along Woodlands Road and snatched her handbag, fleeing towards Stagmont Ring.
As she attempted to chase after him and shouted for help, two people heard her cries and pursued the thief. They managed to detain the suspect at a bus stop along Woodlands Road with the stolen handbag intact. The thief was handed over to the police.
If convicted of snatch theft, he will face a jail term of up to seven years and may also face caning.
