World record attempt ends in tragedy for Singaporean wife, Chilean husband and child A cycling trip around the world ended in tears last Saturday for a Singaporean woman, her Chilean husband and their two-year-old son when an accident in Thailand left the man dead.  According to The Bangkok Post, a pick-up truck collided with 48-year-old Juan Francisco Villa Honorato's bicycle on Mittraphap Road —260km north-east of Bangkok — and sent the man flying into the air. His wife, 40-year-old Jennel Ng-Poh Leng and their child are currently receiving treatment in a hospital in Thailand, while Villa died on the spot. The truck that hit them overturned and landed in a ditch, though the driver was unhurt.  Villa had set out in 2010 to attempt a new Guinness World Record by cycling 250,000km around the world in five years, accompanied by his wife and son. They rode to Thailand on two bicycles, one fitted with a mini carriage that their son sat in, The New Paper reports. This November was supposed to be the end of the five-year-long record-setting expedition.  The driver has since been charged with careless driving resulting in death and injury.  Photo: Bangkok Post
