![Freak accident involving collapsible stroller leads to baby's death]()
A tragic incident involving a unsecured baby stroller has left a four-month-old baby dead, despite not exhibiting visible injuries and pain initially after the accident.
According to The New Paper, the baby had been placed under the care of his 29-year-old aunt Linda, who also had a 21-month-old son. The baby was placed in a stroller, which was thought to be fully secure after she heard a click when she unfolded it. However, when her son pushed the stroller, it folded up and toppled down with the baby still inside.
The aunt immediately carried her nephew out of the fallen stroller and checked on him, who appeared to be fine and displayed no signs of pain. After a short trip to the supermarket, the baby was tucked in to sleep soon after.
At 6am the next day, Linda heard her nephew crying and proceeded to give him some milk. He refused to drink the milk, but fell asleep after he was given a pacifier.
It was three hours later that she noticed something amiss when he was seen lying face down, unresponsive and stiff with brownish liquid dripping from his nose.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was called, and the call operator guided Linda through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) procedures for babies. While the procedure was carried out by her and her fiancé, more fluid came out from the baby's mouth and nose. Fearing further injury, Linda stopped performing CPR on him.
Paramedics arrived promptly and carried out various rescue methods, including using a defibrillator and continuing CPR — but to no avail. Attempts to resuscitate the baby at the National University Hospital also proved to be unsuccessful.
In court yesterday, the coroner's inquiry revealed that the baby suffered injuries including fractures on his skull and left rib. A forensic pathologist also notes that the baby died from head injuries.
Though the aunt did not give the baby immediate medical attention after the fall, no foul play was suspected in the death of the baby according to police investigations.
