![Great success: PM Lee's prostate surgery went down smoothly]()
In a statement by the Prime Minister's Office post-surgery, Lee Hsien Loong's prostate surgery has been successful, and he is expected to make a full recovery.
Lead urologist at the Singapore General Hospital Professor Christopher Cheng who helmed the operation also confirmed that there was no relationship between his previous lymphoma affliction and the current prostate cancer. The robot-assisted keyhole surgery was carried out to remove his prostate gland, following discovery of cancerous cells on his prostate during a magnetic resonance imaging scan.
He was previously diagnosed with lymphoma in '92 but the cancer went into remission after undergoing chemotherapy.
He will be on medical leave for a week before resuming his duties as Prime Minister after the Chinese New Year holidays.
A post on his Facebook page reporting about the surgery's success has accumulated over 12,000 likes and thousands of comments wishing him a quick recovery.
