Debt collectors behind Funan food court ruckus arrested for unlawful assemblyThe debt collectors who caused a ruckus last month at Funan DigitaLife Mall's food court in a bid to harass a stallowner into settling his debts were remorseless even as acted like thugs and damaged property.  Debt collection agency Double Ace Associates had been hired by an unhappy vendor who was owed $21,000 by 53-year-old Sherman Chang, the owner of the Chinese soup stall at the food court. Their harassment left a mess at the stall — empty bowls, styrofoam boxes, a rice cooker and a cash register cluttered the floor in the aftermath of the ordeal, while a plastic spoon and a container filled with condiments was thrown into a pot of soup.  In a report by The New Paper last Saturday, the police have arrested seven suspects, including Double Ace Associates owner Frankie Tan, for unlawful assembly. Computers, laptops, and company documents were also seized as evidence.  They suspects were even escorted to Chang's stall last Friday evening as they underwent questioning by the police. While most co-operated with the investigators, some refused to answer appropriately.  If convicted of unlawful assembly, they can be jailed for up to two years and/or fined.  Chang however expressed fears that they might come back to harass him again or beat him up after they are released from jail.  Photo: HardwareZone
