The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) has issued a warning to all publications and netizens — any public criticism or comment posted about the ongoing case against the Thaipusam revellers may be considered in contempt of court.
In sensitive cases such as these, it's only inevitable that tempers and passions can influence what folks say on the internet — and with the AGC's notice, it's best that they rein whatever grievances they might have about the case."As criminal proceedings are currently before the Courts, we would like to remind the public that statements made may be sub judice contempt of court, if the statements are calculated to affect the judicial process and there is a real risk of prejudice being caused to the ongoing proceedings," the AGC notes in their press release, published earlier today.
They've advised all parties to refrain from making any public comments, or posting any statements on the internet on the matter, pending the conclusion of legal proceedings conducted by the Courts.
The trio accused of disorderly behaviour and attacking police officers at Desker Road during the recent Thaipusam procession are expected to return to court in March.
