![Hotpot Culture allowed to operate, but will be taken to court: NEA]()
Though the infamously ratty confines of Hotpot Culture has been allowed to reopen for business yesterday, the National Environment Agency (NEA) has decided to take the Marina Square restaurant to court.
TODAY reports that the agency has applied for a court summons against the licensee of Hotpot Culture Restaurants for flouting hygiene regulations, which carries a maximum fine of $10,000 and a penalty of six demerit points.
Previous investigations conducted by the NEA revealed rodent activity in the false ceilings above 14 eateries in the Marina Square mall. Structural defects at Hotpot Culture allowed rats to enter the premises, invading the storeroom and kitchen.
Since that fateful incident that left a sour, dead taste in customers' mouths, the restaurant was instructed to take drastic measures to clean up their act, including sealing up the pest's potential entry points, carry out more intensive pest control operations and more.
Hotpot Culture has now been assessed to be clean with no signs of rat activity. NEA will be monitoring the outlet intensely for the next three months.
