Singapore lawyer M. Ravi said in a "hastily-called" press conference today (Feb. 2) he wants to contest in the next General Election as an independent candidate in the Ang Mo Kio constituency, Channel NewsAsia (CNA) reports.
He also apparently expressed interest in becoming the Prime Minister one day.
According to the TV news network media invitations were sent out only about three hours before the briefing started at The Fullerton Bay Hotel.
After speaking critically of the Singapore government's foreign talent policy, the high-profile lawyer, who's representing The Heart Truths blogger Roy Ngerng in a defamation suit involving Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, said he'll focus on Singaporeans "being put first" for his electoral campaign.
CNA reports he also brought up the current four official languages in Singapore, saying they should be made compulsory in school curriculum to "promote equality".
M. Ravi hasn't named anyone that might be part of his six-member Group Representation Constituency, but claims he's already set aside $1 million for his campaign.
More details of his manifesto will be released on Friday.
