Fans of live comedy can look forward to a weekend of world-class laughs as the Magners International Comedy Festival returns for a second edition. Taking place from March 19 to 21 at venues in Boat Quay and Clarke Quay, the line-up features 27 performers from more than 10 countries. This year’s festival will also make stops in Hong Kong, Manila and Cebu.
Among the headliners are Shazia Mirza, a British comedian and columnist of Pakistani descent, Al Lubel an American comic who’s appeared on Late Show with David Letterman and John Robertson whose show The Dark Room has been described as a “live-action adventure game”. Returning performers from last year include Imaan Hadchiti and Ria Lina.
Tickets are available from $20.
Aspiring comedians will have an opportunity to strut their stuff in the lead up to the festival with the debut of a new talent search competition, The Big V. Named in honour of the late Singapore-based comedian Vernon Lewis, the competition’s Singapore phase is on from Jan. 27 to Feb. 3 at Hero’s Bar and Prince of Wales (Little India). The Grand Final will be held on March 21 with the winner receiving an all-inclusive trip to perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Entry costs $15 through Peatix.
