We've been told that there's no such thing as a free lunch. But if you're willing to unleash your inner Kobayashi, you can score a free meal at these restaurants. Whether you're doing it for boasting rights or for the glory of making it to the restaurants' Hall of Fame, be warned that these challenges are for serious eaters only. But here's a pro-tip: bring a few sachets of Eno, an empty stomach, and if you're feeling extra confident, an empty wallet.
The Empire Burger Challenge
Little Diner (789 Bukit Timah Rd., 6466-4088; top pic)
The folks at Bukit Timah's Little Diner claim that their Empire Burger ($50) can feed up to four people! But if you're willing to gamble on your ability to devour, order the enormous sandwich just for yourself. The thick burger comes with three fat and juicy beef patties layered with fried bacon, Swiss cheese, cheddar cheese, fried egg, caramelized onions, lettuce, slices of fresh tomato, and a generous side of French fries – phew! If you can get the whole plate down (fries included) in 20 minutes or less, the eatery won't charge you for the burger plus you'll get your name on the Hall of Fame. If you've attempted and failed, however, Little Diner will throw in a free dessert to celebrate your pity party.
The Monster Pizza Challenge
Tony's Pizza (397 River Valley Rd., 6777-4992 and more)
If you think you're brave enough to handle a 18” monster New Yorker, head over to Tony's Pizza on River Valley Road to accept the Monster Pizza Challenge. This contest is all about the Monster Pizza ($50), which contains 12 generously portioned toppings on a hand-tossed pie: pepperoni, salami, sausage, ham, roasted chicken, chicken cutlet, mushroom, capsicum, onion, spinach, pineapple, and jalapeno. If you finish the pizza in 25 minutes or less, you won't be charged for it, plus you'll get a $50 dining voucher, a T-shirt, and a spot on Tony's Pizza's Wall of Victors. If you can eat fast, but not large quantities, complete the challenge with a friend and finish the same pizza in 12 minutes or less to win.

The Red Hot Terminator Challenge
Roadhouse (13 Dempsey Rd., 6476-2922)
We've all heard about Roadhouse's Terminator Challenge (a 20-minute challenge to finish a 1kg burger). But the American comfort food restaurant has recently upgraded the challenge to The Red Hot Terminator Challenge, and like the name suggests, it's a spice-filled dare. For this feat, you'll have to wolf down the Red Hot Terminator Burger ($58) in 25 minutes or less. The ghastly piquant burger is also a 1kg creation, which consists of five spicy wagyu beef patties, caramelised onions, melted cheese, fried bacon, and jalapenos on a soft sesame seed bun. If you can beat the clock, the burger will be on the house and you'll get a $20 voucher and your name immortalised on the Wall of Flame.
The Ultimate Hotness Challenge
Lower East Side Taqueria (19 East Coast Rd., 6348-1302.)
Chef Claudio Sandri's Mexican-inspired East Coast eatery, Lower East Side Taqueria, prides itself on their tacos ($18 for three). The standard doesn't apply here, there are tilapia, hake, chili con carne, pork belly, chorizo, and vegetarian tacos available here. These two-bite Mexican staples are served with your choice of hot sauce - and there are five levels of spiciness to choose from. If you can scarf down three tacos covered in level five hot sauce in five minutes, they're on the house.
