It seems that Marina Square's infamous Hotpot Culture isn't the only eatery having troubles with rats — the National Environment Agency (NEA) found rodent activity in the false ceilings of not one, not two, but 14 foodshops and foodstalls in the mall.
Following the horrifying discovery of a dead rat floating among the vegetables in a buffet dish at Hotpot Culture earlier this month, NEA conducted two rounds of inspections in the premises and has already taken action against the errant restaurant.
The Marina Square mall seems to have a particularly persistent rat problem — Channel NewsAsia reported that the NEA uncovered evidence of rodent activities at 12 foodshops in October last year.
The mall has now stepped up its pest control treatment for the building and has requested tenants to hand in pest control reports for monitoring. The false ceilings have been sealed to prevent rats from entering the premises.
